Buttock / Outer Thigh Lift

The outer thighs and buttocks, among other areas, become increasingly ptotic (droopy) as we age. This is particularly true with large weight fluctuations. Sagging of the buttock tissue is often accompanied by a loss of buttock volume resulting in loss of natural contours. A buttock / outer thigh lift rejuvenates the buttocks and outer thighs by removing excess skin and subcutaneous tissue (fat) situated above the buttocks and flanks as these areas blend into the lower back. In select cases, this extra skin and subcutaneous tissue at the base of the back may even be used to augment the volume of the buttocks thus restoring youthful and athletic contours.

Am I A Good Buttock / Outer Thigh Lift Candidate?

Ideal buttock / outer thigh lift candidates often demonstrate some, or all the following features:

  • Sagging of the outer thighs and buttocks which is “corrected” by pushing the tissue upwards (simulating a lift)
  • Loss of buttock volume / shape
  • Self-consciousness when wearing shorts or other clothing that highlights the outer thighs

Buttock / Outer Thigh Lift FAQs

Q. Why are outer thigh / buttock lift procedures grouped together?

A. Anatomically the outer thighs blend into the buttocks via a large semicircular line that starts at one hip, travels just above the buttocks, and ends on the other hip. Because of this anatomic proximity, rejuvenation of these regions goes together. Rather than lift each of these regions separately, they are lifted as a “unit”.

Q. Where is the incision for a buttock / outer thigh lift?

A. The incision is situated just above the hips and extends around the back at the junction of the buttocks and lower back. This results in an incision that extends from hip-to-hip that is concealed with the waistline of pants / shorts. When viewed from the side, the incision is a natural extension of an abdominoplasty incision.

Q. Can a buttock / outer thigh lift be performed with an abdominoplasty?

A. When an abdominoplasty is performed at the same time as a buttock / outer thigh lift it is called a circumferential body lift, or “belt lipectomy”. While there are many patients that benefit from these two procedures, Dr. Gougoutas does not perform them at the same time because of the prolonged period of limited mobility, recovery and opposing healing forces that may result in healing complications. Typically these procedures are performed a minimum of 3 months apart.
